New Product of the Week #10: Dear Santa Wish List (Dry Erase)

Now that the "technical" issues have been fixed (ahem, blogger), let's FINALLY announce this week's New Product(s) of the week, shall we?

I don't know about you, but my kids start in about January with what they are SURE they want for Christmas. Then, around November, their list starts changing daily (hourly in some cases) and it's hard to keep track of what they REALLY want. :) SO, this year, we are trying something different.

For the younger kids (under 8), they get a simple one like this (sized for a 5X7 frame):

Then, if they can write, they can fill it out themselves. If they are 3, I help them out by writing what they say:

(Yes, my 3 year old wants a GPS. When I told him you need a car for a GPS, he said, "then I want a car too!" That's what happens when the only television they watch is Fox News (no kid commercials there!) Grin.)

For the older kids, I think they need to account for Santa why they have been good and "deserve" for him to bring the things they are asking for. It also helps them to be more aware of the choices they are making leading up to Christmas. (Sized for an 8X10 frame).

The kids can erase and "change" their list all month long (we have actually put an "elf deadline" so any changes after the "elf deadline" may not make it to the elves in time to make it.)

The vinyl is pictured in "mirror image"--for placement on the BACK of a picture frame glass. Then I threw in some festive holiday paper and we're good to go! Brilliant!

New Product of the Week #8: 2012 Primary Theme Designs Choose the Right

I am so excited about this week's new product(s) of the week! This is something we are constantly trying to teach our children, so making these designs were a lot of fun!

The LDS Primary Theme for 2012 is "Choose the Right"--regardless of if you are LDS or not, I think the concept of "Choose the Right" is something everyone tries to instill in their children. Because I am still in the stage of life where I have little ones at home, these designs are geared more toward teaching children to make good choices, but they can also work on teenagers and adults too!

Without further adieu, here they are: (Drumroll Please . . .)

We'll start with the basic CTR Shield, found on almost all CTR Rings. This is pictured on a 4X4 block of wood--great gift for primary kids for birthdays or Christmas! At only $1, (and then 40% off THIS WEEK ONLY), it's a STEAL!

If you live anywhere near a Hobby Lobby (specifically in Utah), they were having these darling clear square ornaments on sale last week for 50% off. I got a set of 4 of these for really cheap! (And yes, you can probably expect to see at least 3 other uses for them in the near future *wink*) This was an FHE activity we did about choices and consequences. We talked about how every choice we make has a consequence and you can't pick up one end of a stick without getting the other end as well. We ended by having our kids write down choices that they want to make that will bring them lasting happiness (i.e., "I will go to church", "I will serve a mission", "I will go to college", " I will marry in the temple", etc.) We plan to hang this ornament on our Christmas tree as a reminder to them of the choices they have to make NOW that will get them to the choices they want to make in the future.

This is our "CTR Choices Jar". (And this would work GREAT for a large primary as well). Every time a child makes a good choice (when the other choice would have seemed more fun or easier), they get to put a candy in the jar. When the jar is full, we dump out the candy and the kids get to split it up. SO, when they choose to actually give the chickens water instead of just SAYING they did, they get to put a candy in. When they read to their brother instead of punching him, they get to add a candy (you would be surprised how often they choose "punch" instead!). We'll see how well it works in the long run, but for now, it's working like a dream! (I used a DecoBlock Glass block from Home depot that already has a hole at the top.)

This is a fun way to introduce the theme for the year--with the ever popular Subway Art method!

I put this on the mirror in the kids' bathroom as a reminder to them to Choose the Right. (Ignore the chipped bottom of the mirror--that's evidence that I really do have the 5 boys that I always talk about, right?!)

What a great way to remind kids to make good choices! (It's the last thing they will see as they leave in the morning and the first thing they see when they come home!)

The other thing we are doing with our kids is we made each of them one of these dry erase choice boards. They can write a way they can choose the right every morning when they wake up and then if they did the thing they wrote down, they can erase it and write another choice they want to make. :) Kids LOVE dry erase, am I right?!

New Product of the Week #7: Today I am Thankful For

New Product of the Week Time! (I know you all stayed up late so you could be the first to see it, right?).

This week's new product of the week is a 5 minute project. (And then a "48 hours to get around to taking the picture" delay sort of project).

(I am also thankful to my husband for doing the tile backsplash pictured behind the frame this weekend AND for writing my on the sample frame for me--my hands were full today!)

This is a great way to get kids thinking about being more grateful. I plan to make one for each of my kids and making it part of the fall mantle display. They can update it as much as they want (who doesn't love to erase dry-erase boards?!) which gets them thinking about more things to be grateful for. (And it's not bad for adults to have a better attitude of gratitude either!)

Just apply the vinyl to the back of the glass, put a piece of decorative paper in the frame and voila! You're DONE! (unless you have to go and buy a dry erase marker . . . then it may be longer than 5 minutes. :) )

New Product of the Week #6: Steve Jobs Collage (Apple)

Happy Halloween to all! Guess what I did today?

Witches Brew Labels

I went to my Kindergartner's Class to make "Witches Brew". I love making this "brew" for children--especially Kindergartners! I start with dry ice (1-2 lbs) already in my Cauldron. Then, I tell the children that my "Ghost Spirits" (2 liters of Sprite) LOVE smart children and may try to escape from my Cauldron when I add them if there are any smart children in the room. Then I pour the Sprite on the dry ice and the "smoke" bubbles out of the cauldron--it always gets a lot of giggles. Then I add the rest of the ingredients, one at a time, making up some "spooky" saying about them as I go. It's always a big hit! (Complete recipe in the listing).

Now, on to the REAL reason for today's post! Time to announce this week's "New Product of the Week":

As many of you know, Steve Jobs, passed away a few weeks ago. He was a very inspirational mentor to my brother (and millions of others in the world). He was a wonderful example of innovation and thinking outside the box. SO, I created a "collage" with several of my favorite "Steve Job Quotes" and made this as a gift for my brother to hang in his office:

It is sized for a 24 X 38 board. (Long Story--it was supposed to be 24 X 36, but the guy at the store cut it a little long. I didn't realize that until it was time to apply the vinyl, so I added the "Think Different" on top. Phew! Nice fix!

New Product of the Week #5: You Are Special Plate Stencil

Sorry for the delay in posting this week's new Product of the week--(you'll understand why in a minute) . . . Let's get right to it, shall we?

Growing up we always had a red "You are Special" plate that we got to eat off of for our birthdays, awards' night, graduation, etc. Did any of you have that plate? There was something about that plate that made me feel, well, special! I really felt like a queen for the day!

We wanted to carry that tradition on in our home so I went searching for the plate. The cheapest one I found was $27.50! Seriously?! For a plate?

SO, I headed to Walmart and bought myself a red plate for just under $5. I already had etching cream on hand, so I just created a vinyl stencil, applied it to the plate, spread the etching cream and waited. After about 10 minutes (the bottle says 5 but I have a bunch of kids to distract me so it was more like 10) I washed off the etching cream and peeled off the vinyl . . .

Beautiful, right? (Someone seriously needs to teach me how to take pictures of etched glass--the glares are terrible, right?!) I also did one on a clear glass plate, etched on the bottom, and plan to put it on a red charger. The clear glass plate was $2.50--even cheaper!

(Do you see what I mean?! I need help! My photography skills were no match for the etched glass!) We used it tonight for my son's birthday, and he LOVED it! (He *may* have even said this was the best birthday EVER--and it's totally because of the plate, right? *wink)

Pumpkins Anyone?

It's Harvest Time! (one of my FAVORITE parts of Fall!)

This week I was wading in peaches (not from MY peach tree, because MY tree gave me NO peaches this year. Nice.) and decided as an afterthought to make some freezer jam. I whipped it up really quick and poured it in my Ball Freezer Jam containers. As they sat on my counter to "set", I thought, "Hey! Those look like pumpkins!" (LOVE the green lids on them!)
